Training camp in the desert

PRESS RELEASE – Guam U17 Women’s National Team Head Coach Chyna Ramirez officially announced the team’s traveling roster of 19 players for a training camp in Dammam, Saudi Arabia beginning this week.

On the final travel roster are goalkeepers Sierra Ruehl and Feah Fejeran and field players Olivia Conroy, Aiyanna Duenas, Emme Ettleman, Iliana Figueroa, Jaelyn Han, Hope Hutapea, Allyana Li, Caden Milner, Ryley Munoz, Yzabella Saddo, Hinengi San Nicolas, Orung Santos, Trinity Santos, Kalyn Savage, Hayden Thompson, Amira Walker, and Serenity Wusstig.

Guam U17 Women’s National Team player Hayden Thompson, center with braided hair, takes part in a passing drill during a recent training session at the Guam Football Association National Training Center. Guam U17 Women’s National Team Head Coach Chyna Ramirez finalized a traveling roster of 19 players for a training camp and friendly matches in Dammam, Saudi Arabia beginning this week.

“This training camp is a great opportunity for the players called up,” Ramirez said. “Women’s football, particularly in the West Asian region, is developing at a rapid pace, and we are fortunate to be part of this development. In addition to the professional training environment the team will experience abroad, we will play two training matches against the Saudi Arabia U17 Women’s National Team, which will bolster both teams’ preparedness for future competitions. “I would like to thank the Saudi Arabian Football Federation for extending the invitation to Guam and also taking care of all logistics in the country. I’d also like to thank GFA for accepting the invitation to send our team to the camp,” Ramirez added.

Following Guam’s participation in the WAFF Women’s Championship Saudi 2024 in Jeddah in February, Guam Football Association received an invitation from the Saudi Arabian Football Federation to take part in a U17 Women’s training camp. As part of the training camp, Guam’s team will play in official friendly matches against its Saudi Arabia counterpart on Apr. 19 and Apr. 22.

Of the 19 players, 12 currently play for their respective high schools in the Interscholastic Girls High School Football League coordinated by GFA. St. John’s School features the most players called up to the team with four: Conroy, Hutapea, Li, and Saddo. Other players in the league are Han and Orung Santos who both play for top team John F. Kennedy High School, Thompson and Milner from Harvest Christian Academy, and Duenas and San Nicolas from Academy of Our Lady of Guam. Munoz plays for Guam High School and Fejeran plays for Simon Sanchez High School. Trinity Santos attends Okkodo High School and Wusstig attends Harvest Christian Academy, but currently is still in middle school. The remaining five players – Ettleman, Figueroa, Ruehl, Savage, and Walker will meet the team in Dammam flying in from the United States.

The traveling staff are Ramirez, Assistant Coach Hannah Cruz, Goalkeeper Coach Keleko Fejeran, Team Manager Ariya Cruz, Assistant Team Manager Ghada Jurdi, Team Physiotherapist Margaret Ha, and GFA Technical Director Ross Awa.
