Guam national basketball coach Jimmy Yi, has put together his annual basketball camps over the years. After leading Team Guam to double gold in the 10th Micronesian Games last week in Majuro, Yi puts together a cool summer tournament featuring local combined teams along with a team from Japan and the Philippines.
Three days filled will take place at the FD Phoenix Center starting Thursday morning at 8 am.
Here’s a brief background on the teams.
U15 Tokyo Samurai
A team assembled by coach Kris Thiesen who is a coach at St. Mary’s High School is Tokyo.
DYJ
Coached by Arlene Mad, they will be tough, they play hard-nosed defense and always play hard for the whole game.
Knights
Group of mixed current high schoolers, they have a great chance to make a good run. Tristan Hahn will lead them and they will all play hard.
Ry n Em
A mixed high school squad, it will be led by the Madrazo brothers whom we all know they will shoot lights out. We expect them to be in the mix at the end.
PIHS
Coached by Yoshi Sayama – they will have a mixed group of players that just graduated. They will be quick and will have a run-and-gun style of game. Don’t blink!
Yimpact Jakarta
Jakarta is made up of players from different schools. They are using this tournament as a warm up before they depart to Jakarta on July 1st.
Impact summer
Mixed players from the Yimpact camp. They will learn and grow from this tournament.
GIRLS
Yimpact
A group of girls u15, will be using this tournament as a tune up before they depart to Jakarta July 1st as well. They will get a lot of experience playing the other girls.
Flyers
Led by Jia Peters, this group will be fun to watch and possibly be in the finals. They will be quick and ready to go.
Okkodo
Well coached by Arleen Mad, they will play hard and execute well in the half court set. They will not give up and will dive for the loose balls.
Royals
Led by Arriah Arceo, who can dominate the game any time. They will be in the mix to make it to the finals.
