PRESS RELEASE – Top seed Joevin Wolford narrowly defeated FDMS Friars’ Jaden Milan in the finals of the 2024-2025 Guam Bowling High School League All-Island Championship, securing the JFK Islanders boys’ bowling team their first team title.
Wolford started the championship match strong with a double on lanes 15 and 16, while southpaw Milan faced challenges in the early stages. However, Wolford encountered difficulties mid-game, allowing Milan a chance to close the gap. Despite this opportunity, Milan couldn’t capitalize due to his own errors. Milan struck in the 10th frame, hinting at a possible comeback, but Wolford delivered a calm and decisive strike in the pocket, securing the match and ending his senior year with the trophy and medal.
In the semi-final match, Milan made a comeback after a strong start by third seed Evan Duenas. The sophomore strung together a turkey, putting pressure on the freshman, who missed crucial spares. Ultimately, Milan secured the victory and advanced to the final against Wolford.
Wolford led the field, narrowly beating Milan by two pins. Wolford bowled games of 214, 234, and 200, while Milan posted scores of 206, 203, and 237. Duenas secured third place with a 598 series, finishing twelve pins ahead of Paul Ray from HCA Eagles. Bulldogs’ Billy Rey Donor rounded out the top five, having bowled 222 in his first game.
The All-Island Team finale was a thrilling competition, with just an eleven-point spread between the first and fourth places. The Islanders narrowly defeated the Eagles by three points, 38-41. Wolford’s top ranking was the deciding factor, with teammates Stefan Azucena and Zayne Ayangco finishing 8th and 9th, and Tristan Adonay in 20th place. Despite strong performances by Parker Ashland (6th), Ye-Jun Yeo (12th), and Koren Espia (19th), the Eagles fell short of their championship goal.
The Bulldogs surprised everyone by finishing third with a total of 43 points. Led by Donor, along with Joel Silvestre (7th), Damien Carbullido (14th), and Rainen Fernando (17th), they nearly pulled off the biggest upset of the championship. The Geckos finished six points out of third place with 49 points led by Micaiah Benton’s top ten finish, while the reigning champions, FDMS Friars, ended the event in 5th place with 63 points.
The awards were presented by the Guam Bowling Congress to the top ten athletes with Wolford also receiving the All Island Individual Championship Trophy, while the Islanders, Eagles, and Bulldogs were awarded the team trophies in order of finish.
