ACOSTA COMES UP BIG FOR GUAM IN WIN OVER P.I.

Guam moves closer to advancing to World Series

By Jay Leon Guerrero

Guam improved to 2-0 in the 2025 Asan Pacific Senior Regional Baseball Tournament. Guam defeated American Samoa 22-0 in the tournament opener and defeated the Philippines 11-1 Wednesday at the Guam Sports Complex in Harmon.

Evan Acosta had a walk-off 3-run homer to center field to end the game at the bottom of the 5th due to mercy rule. Guam improved to 2-0 for the tournament and will play the CNMI on Thursday. Should Guam win, they will advance to the World Series in South Carolina later this summer.

“We had a game plan today and everyone executed the game plan,” said coach Isaac Cruz. “At the end of it all, the result was a walk-off home run.”

Walk off homer
“I knew I was up on the count, it was a 2-0 count and I knew a fastball was coming. I had a runner on first and third and all I wanted to do was hit the ball hard up the middle,” said Acosta. Acosta indeed made contact, hitting the ball over the center field fence for a game-ending 3-run homer due to the mercy rule.

One more game
“We’re glad the tournament is here and all the teams were able to make it. Our end goal is to win this tournament,” said Cruz

“Our game plan is the same as today. The team is hot, so we just need to keep up the good communication on the field,” said Acosta.

“If we stick to our game plan, we will accomplish our goal of getting back to South Carolina,” said Acosta.

In the two games, Guam pitching has given up only three hits total.

The CNMI beat American Samoa 15-4 in the earlier Day 2 game.
