The team from Down Under went 2-0 in the opening day of the U15 Oceania World Cup Qualifier as Australia won convincingly 15-0 over the CNMI and 9-0 over Guam Friday afternoon at the Harmon Sports Complex.
Only three teams are participating in this year’s tournament as other countries such as Palau, FSM and New Zealand were unable to make it.
The three participating teams will play each other three times over four days with the top team advancing to the U15 World Cup next year representing Oceania.
If Day 1 is any indication, it looks like the Aussies will be that team.
In the opening game, Australia scored four runs in the first three innings over the CNMI, finishing with 13 hits and allowed just two hits in the game called after five innings.
In the second game, Guam kept it close for the first three innings before Australia scored three runs in the next two frames to blow open the game.
Leadoff hitter Sage Ignacio had the only hit for Guam – a first inning single to the right side.
In the third and final game of the day, the CNMI came away with a huge 24-5 win over Guam. the CNMI scored eight runs in the 2nd inning and 10 runs in the 3rd to blow open the game.
Kayden Lizama went 4-for-4 for the CNMI. Guam’s five runs came in the final two innings while committing six errors.
Noah had one of Guam’s four hits and two RBIs.
