FIRST EVER MOM’S VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE UPCOMING

League to include competitive and recreational divisions

PRESS RELEASE – The inaugural Mom’s Spring Volleyball League is set to kick off later this month, marking a groundbreaking opportunity for moms and women of all ages to take the court. Designed to promote fitness, wellness, and a love for volleyball, the league – sponsored by the non-profit organization HYPE and operated by Legacy Volleyball Club – will run from March 29 to April 26, featuring two divisions to accommodate both competitive and recreational players.

For years, these women have been their children’s biggest fans, supporting their athletic dreams from the sidelines. Now, it’s their turn to serve, set, and smash.

“This league is about more than just volleyball,” said Al Garrido, director of Legacy Volleyball Guam. “It’s about empowerment, community, and showing that athleticism and competition don’t have an expiration date. Whether they’re experienced players or stepping onto the court for the first time, we want every participant to feel part of something bigger.”

For Lisa Bordallo, a mom of two teenagers and a Guam National Team bronze medalist in beach volleyball, the league represents more than just a chance to compete.

“We are grateful to Legacy for putting together this long-awaited league,” Bordallo said. “As lifelong lovers of the game, most of us have raised our kids on volleyball and spend most of our time supporting their games or coaching. This is a great opportunity for us to continue playing and avail of the physical and emotional benefits of our sport. I’m excited to play, but even more excited to reunite with my fellow ND Royals. This lifelong connection is what volleyball in Guam is all about.”

WINTER LEAGUE TO FOLLOW!!

Following the spring season, Legacy Volleyball Guam plans to launch a Winter League in October and November, furthering opportunities for women to stay active and engaged in the sport.

League Details

The Mom’s Spring Volleyball League will feature two divisions:

  • Competitive Division – For experienced players and former athletes seeking a high level of play.
  • Recreational Division – A fun, inclusive division for those who love the game but prefer a more relaxed pace.
  • Each team will compete in a minimum of eight games, with certified officials overseeing play. The season will conclude with trophies and medals for division champions.
  • League rules allow moms of all ages to participate. Non-moms over the age of 35 are also eligible, while younger non-moms may play under certain restrictions. The first 10 teams to register in each division will secure their spots.
  • $500 entrance fee will get each team a month-long league of play, while trophies and awards will be given to the top teams.

NOTE: Deadline to register is March 22!

Rachel Stake, Chief Academy Officer of the iLearn Academy Charter School and a representative of the Lions volleyball team that is competing in the recreational division says that the league is proving to be an uplifting experience.

“Getting to be a part of the upcoming volleyball league specifically for moms has honestly been such a rewarding experience,” Stake said. Although there were definite nerves and apprehension at the start the team is developing confidence as the League draws closer. “iLearn has always had such a strong family atmosphere, and that has definitely translated to our volleyball team.” The Lions will be made up of a blend of teachers, staff, and administrators that are looking forward to building relationships outside of the workplace and have fun connecting in a different mode.

Stake stated that while some may naturally and instinctively have that competitive spirit, the overall atmosphere of this league is shaping up to be one of camaraderie, support, and empowerment for all the moms involved.

 Call for Corporate Sponsors

Legacy Volleyball Guam is actively seeking corporate sponsors to support the Mom’s Spring Volleyball League and help expand opportunities for women’s athletics in Guam. Sponsorship provides businesses with high visibility among the island’s growing volleyball community while promoting women’s wellness, empowerment, and active lifestyles.

“Sponsoring this league means investing in the women and families who make up the heartbeat of our community,” Garrido said. “It’s a unique opportunity to celebrate moms while also giving companies strong brand exposure through sports.”

Sponsorship packages include branding on promotional materials, banners, game-day announcements, and digital marketing efforts. Businesses interested in sponsoring can contact [email protected] for more details.
