PRESS RELEASE – The Guam Volleyball Federation is proud to announce that four of Guam’s rising beach volleyball athletes have been selected to represent the island at the first-ever U18 Oceania Beach Volleyball Championship, scheduled for April 6–10 in the Solomon Islands. The team departs on April 1.
Antonio Egurrola, Gio Yanesa, Niesha Chen, and Alessandra Leon Guerrero will compete against top youth athletes from across Oceania in this historic regional event. Their selection highlights the island’s commitment to developing young talent and gaining international experience.
“These young athletes have put in the work, demonstrated incredible talent, and earned the right to represent Guam on an international stage,” said Herman Ada, president of the GVBF. “It’s a proud moment for our island and a great opportunity to show the world what Guam’s youth are capable of.”
The championship is sanctioned by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and supported by a joint FIVB and Olympic Solidarity program, aiming to grow youth volleyball in the Pacific. The tournament also promotes sportsmanship, regional unity, and long-term athletic development in Oceania.
“This is a groundbreaking opportunity for these athletes,” said head coach Manny Guarin. “Competing at this level will help shape not only their athletic careers but also their character and confidence.”
The GVBF extends its deepest appreciation to the Guam National Olympic Committee for their support through the Olympic Solidarity grant, which helped make this opportunity possible.
As the team prepares for departure, the island community rallies behind them with pride, excitement, and full support.
