GUAM FATHER-SON BASEBALL IN ARIZONA

Guam played well at the 2025 MSBL Baseball World Series in Phoenix, Arizona earlier this month.

Eighteen players dawned the Guam uniform that played 45 innings of baseball over three days, eventually falling in the playoff round.

Day 1 Recap

Guam split its two games on the opening day of competition, losing the opening game to the Utah Pelicans 11-5 (the Pelicans eventually won the championship). According to Guam manager Pete Ojeda, the Utah team had father-son pitching that were easily hitting mid to high 80s. 

Game 2 was much favorable, winning 7-4 over the Seattle Raniers. Roke Alcantara pitched four innings of 1-run baseball and the sons combined over the remaining five innings to hold Seattle for the win.

Day 2 Recap

Another double header was in store at the Good Year Baseball Stadium (home of the Cincinnati Reds and Cleavland Guardians Spring Training).

Guam lost the first game of the day 12-11 to the Colorado Norsemen. It was a back and forth battle that ended up losing in the home half of the ninth inning. Hitting notables were Jaethan Muna-Barnes, Brent Blau, Xander Aguon and RJ Cruz. 

Guam beat Las Vegas 5-2 in the second game in a pitchers dual which combined four sons and four father pitching efforts to come out with the win. This left the team at 2-2 which was right on the fence of making the playoff Saturday. They ultimately received the call late Friday night that they did make the playoff and had to face off against another Utah Team which, at the time, was undefeated at 4-0.

The playoff match was close at 5-3 in the 5^th until the gas tank ran out.

“We just ran out of son pitching and, compiled with some injuries over the two long days of baseball, it just resulted in us falling short,” said manager Ojeda.

The team had a great weekend with a couple BBQs and team bonding sessions before, after and during games. 

“I encourage all interested Father and Son tandems to reach out to me or Gene McDonald if they are interested in participating in the 2026 tournament,” said Ojeda. “I have built a relationship with the MSBL league representatives that make us one of the most welcomed teams to this tournament and the boys have also built a great reputation of competitiveness and great sportsmanship.”
