OVER 1500 KICK OFF ROBBIE WEBBER YOUTH LEAGUE

Spring 2025 season gets underway

PRESS RELEASE – After weeks of training with their respective clubs, over 1,500 youth players in close to 130 teams overcame first-game jitters on opening day of the Spring 2025 season of the Triple J Auto Group Robbie Webber Youth League Saturday at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

“Playing in the first match of the season was fun, but it was also a lot of pressure,” said Duane Jesse Hernandez, captain of the Wings FC Red U10 team. “We had to play like how our coach wanted us to play and it was a little different than the other coach we had, but we played well.

“I felt surprised I was able to score goals today because in other seasons, I usually played as a defender. (Overall) I like playing in the league because you meet new people and play a sport that is fun,” added the nine-year-old.

The U6, U8, U10, and U13 Divisions play in a small-sided format. The U10 Division is composed of the greatest number of teams in the league with 32, followed by the U8 Division with 31. The U13 Division features 26 teams and 22 teams play in the U6 Division.

The upper age divisions – U16 Boys and U17 Girls – play in a full 11-a-side format. Eight teams play in the U16 Boys Division and seven play in the U17 Girls Division.

New to the league is an all-girls U13 Division, which features six teams total from five clubs: Bank of Guam Strykers FC, Dededo SC, Guam Shipyard Wolverines, NAPA Rovers FC, and Sidekick SC.

In celebration of the start of the new season, as well as GFA’s 50th Anniversary, the GFA Football Events Department featured “Go for Gold” activities for the teams and their supporters, including:

• Introduction of GFA mascots Tasi and Tano

• Meet and Greet with Guam’s youth national players

• Photobooth opportunity from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

• Games with Triple J Auto Group team

• Free Haagen-Dazs ice cream and popcorn (while supplies last)

• Lucky draw for youth league players

Prizes for the lucky draw for youth league players include a Sony Playstation 5, authentic Guam National Team jerseys, giveaways from Triple J Auto Group, and “I Love Guam Football” collector items. The lucky draw will be held Monday and winners will be contacted via PowerUp E-mail.

All matches in the 10-week Spring season will be held on Saturdays. The league’s full schedule is available online at https://guamfa.powerupsports.com
