SABLAN WINS 80th BAY REGIONAL TITLE

Ivan Sablan, 21, captured the 80th Bay Regional Sunday at Tilden Park in Berkley, CA firing a final round 70 to edge out friend Ben Friedman.

“I enjoy tight golf courses with firm greens,” the incoming 5th year graduate student at UC Davis said. “Tilden really played to my strengths, and I just tried to stay patient all day.”

Sablan, who finished at 3 over 213, is looking forward to making a run at a professional career once he completes his education at UC Davis.

Friedman, an incoming freshman at San Jose State was one back at 214.

Sablan’s round included a red hot 2-under 33 on the front nice punctuated with three straight birdies on 4, 5 and 6. He got to 3-under for the day with a birdie on 10 but then gave back 3 shots to finish even.
