SPIKEFEST TOURNEY WILL BE ACTION PACKED

Legacy Volleyball Club to host 2nd annual event

PRESS RELEASE – Guam Volleyball fans will have an 8-day long treat starting this coming weekend. The 2nd Annual Legacy Spikefest Tournament is set to begin Jan. 25 and run through Feb. 1, bringing together over 40 teams across five divisions for a weeklong celebration of youth volleyball on Guam. The tournament will highlight the skill, sportsmanship, and camaraderie of Guam’s volleyball community while showcasing the island’s rapid growth in youth participation.

This year’s event will also serve as a fundraiser for the Legacy Volleyball Club, with proceeds supporting the club’s teams as they prepare to compete internationally in the Philippines this summer. Spectators can enjoy exciting volleyball action while contributing to the development of local athletes.

Event Details
The tournament will feature teams in the following divisions:
• Men’s 18U Division: 12 teams
• Women’s 18U Division: 12 teams
• Middle School Girls’ 14U Division: 10 teams
• Middle School Boys’ 14U Division: 6 teams
• Elementary Exhibition Division: Up to 7 teams

The competition begins with pool play, determining rankings for the playoffs. Teams will vie for a spot in the prestigious gold medal bracket, while others will compete in consolation matches to determine final standings.

Youth Volleyball Growth on Guam
The Spikefest Tournament shines a spotlight on the unprecedented growth of youth volleyball on Guam. Over the past year, participation has expanded significantly, with schools and clubs fostering young athletes who are now ready to showcase their talents on the court. This year’s impressive turnout reflects the volleyball community’s dedication to empowering youth and growing the sport.
“Volleyball has truly exploded on Guam,” said Al Garrido, Owner and Director of the Legacy Volleyball Club. “This tournament is a testament to the hard work of our athletes, coaches, and families who are driving the growth of the sport and taking it to new heights.”

International Team Joins Spikefest
Adding an international element to the event, the junior team from Domuschola International School in the Philippines will travel to Guam to compete. Their participation highlights the island’s reputation as a hub for competitive youth volleyball and provides local teams with valuable international experience.

Lineup Highlights

The Spikefest Tournament will feature some of the top youth volleyball talent in the region:
• Men’s & 18U Division: Local powerhouses like Lance, Bombers, and Haggan Gold will bring intensity and skill to the court.
• Women’s & 18U Division: Top Junior teams such as Haggan, Guahan Girls, Guam Pro 1 and PVA will join the host team Legacy VC and are set to compete in thrilling matchups.
• Middle School Divisions: Rising stars in the 14U Boys and Girls divisions, including Legacy Blaze, Ninja Turtles, Spartans, Guam Pro, Wildflowers, and Haggan promise to deliver exciting matches.
• Elementary Exhibition Division: Seven teams will participate in spirited exhibition games, showcasing the joy and growth of the sport for younger players.

Guam Blooded: Ethan Toves Maddies has signed to play D1 baseball for the College of The Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts on a full ride scholarship.
He is the son of proud parents Macky and Yvette Toves Maddies of Los Alamitos, California, grandson of Juan and Maria Toves+ formerly of Ordot/Barrigada Guam and Godson of Anthony and AnnMarie Toves of Ordot, Guam.

The All-Tournament selection were Zhion Macapinlac JFK, Darwin Ecijan JFK, Matthew Quinata Southern, and Malcom Fernandez Tiyan.

JFK’s Collin Rillamas was named tournament MVP.
