SPIKEFEST WRAPS UP WEEK FILLED WITH VOLLEYBALL

Team Lance, Rogue take men’s and women’s title, respectively

Eight days of tournament action wrapped up Saturday evening with Team Lance taking the men’s division championship and the Rogue Ladies winning the women’s division of the 2nd Legacy Spikefest Tournament at the I-Learn gym.

With 12 men’s teams, a dozen women’s team, six middle school squads and 10 elementary level, it was truly a week-long festival for the island’s volleyball community.

“We are extremely happy with the turnout at this tournament,” tournament director Al Garrido said. “Most especially for all the teams that put their heart out on the line to play. It was a big task to take with an eight-day tournament, but we really did want to give each team here an amazing experience. We want to also thank the Domuschola Volleyball team (from the Philippines) that came out to compete. They really showed how passionate and aggressive they are for the sport of volleyball.”

Guam’s Wayne Blas completed his 13th Boston Marathon and 38th marathon overall.
The island’s record holder in the distance, Blas finished this year in 2:35:21.
“I’m very happy with this result because seven months ago, I was sidelined with a stress fracture that kept me out for three months. No running! To come back on an abbreviated marathon build and finish one of the toughest races strong and healthy was a big win for me.”
His time of 2:29:38 at the 2023 Chicago Marathon and World Marathon Majors Age Group Championships stands as the Guam National Record.
