STATS: MENO RUNNING AWAY WITH RUSHING TITLE

The storyline behind Week 5 of the ISA Football League didn’t even happen on Guam. As the federal government went into a ‘shutdown’ on Oct 1st, the schedule was once again disturbed as the Guam High Panthers were not allowed to play due to the shutdown.

The poor Panthers were already forced to forfeit to the GW Geckos because their football equipment came in late. After an impressive win over the Southern Dolphins sparked their mood in Week 4, a decision way beyond their control has them sitting on the sidelines again, not even able to practice, until the federal government reopens (so to speak)….and that could take days or weeks, no one is sure.

Meanwhile, the FD Friars marched past the Dolphins 31-0 on Friday as junior star Javin Meno added up nearly 200 yards of offense to pretty much stamp his name as the league’s best offensive player to date. The FD machine continues rolling along with its 85th straight win.

The GW Geckos have, as expected, crushed the bottom half of the league by a total of 155-0 in three games. After a 57-0 drubbing of the JFK Islanders Saturday night, the utmost challenge comes this Friday against the Friars. It is highly likely these two teams will meet again in the championship game in November, but a big game is a big game. The last time these two powerhouses faced off was in the 2024 championship game in a defensive battle 5-0!

Speaking of defenses, the Friars defense has given up 5.5 yards per game so far (that’s yards, not points), while the Geckos defense have pushed feeble opponents backwards to an average of minus-20 yards a game.
