2026 TRACK SEASON OFFICIALLY UNDERWAY

The 2025-2026 ISA track and field season has officially kicked off on Thursday evening at the JFK track. This year introduces a new format, with meets split across two days, Thursdays and Fridays. This format allows half of the participating schools to compete on one day and the other half the next day.

Day one featured the GAA Angels, Guam High Panthers, GW Geckos, JFK Islanders, Okkodo Bulldogs, and the Simon Sanchez Sharks.

Panthers Aim to Continue Dynasty

The Guam High Panthers, once again led by the legendary coach Joe Taitano, opened the season in dominant fashion with a well-rounded performance across both track and field events. The Panthers boys are chasing a historic ninth championship title, while the girls team looks poised to defend their crown and secure back-to-back titles.

The Panthers’ boys distance squad continues to be a major strength, with Eldon Egbert, Wesley Augustine, and Caleb Steele leading the charge. Egbert claimed first in the 3000m, Augustine took first in the 1500m, and Steele secured first place in the 800m. 

On the sprints side, senior Noah Harris is shaping up to be this season’s sprinting superstar. Harris captured first place in both the 100m (11.34) and 200m (23.28), setting personal bests in both events. 

Backing Harris is teammate Rai Johnson, who took first in the 400m with an impressive time of 51.47 and was a part of the 4×1 squad that came in first place this evening. Johnson trailed Harris in the 100m, finishing in second.

Senior Hayden Buck also delivered an impressive opening meet, taking first place in all three of her events—the 400m, 200m, and 4×100 relay.

“That 400m felt so nice. I felt like I’ve never run that fast before,” said Buck. “I want to thank my competition this evening for pushing me; I really appreciate them for that. Overall, I felt really good about that race.”

Looking ahead, Buck has her sights set on even bigger goals. “This season I’m really hoping to break more Guam High School records, win at Far East, and maybe even go for the Guam record in the triple jump.”

Although Buck did not compete in the field events during the season opener, she emphasized her goal for this meet was her track events. 

“My coach wants us to qualify for the Far East since it’s coming up soon. But expect to see me back in the pit next week,” she added.

Islanders on the Rise

The JFK Islanders are also shaping up to be a team to watch this season, with both their boys and girls squads showing depth across multiple events.

The Islanders return key contributors in Dallas Mohr, Stephan Medrano, and Miachloe Decano, while also welcoming new talent such as Hazel Wilson, Zahna Whitehead, and Zoe Whitehead, who add a new dynamic to the green and gold lineup.
