Senior Aubrey Ibanez scored a hat trick in each half to guide the JFK Islanders to an easy 11-1 win over the Southern Dolphins Wednesday night in the Interscholastic Girls Football League.
In what normally is a close and tough matchup between the two squads turned out to be a blowout as Ibanez got hot early on with three goals in the first half that saw the Islanders jump to a 5-1 halftime lead.
“She’s at a different level and working harder as a senior with one goal in mind,” long-time JFK coach Lad Manansala said about Ibanez. “She’s taking more of a leadership role this year and she’s making everyone play better around her.”
Ibanez scored another three goals in the second half to open the floodgates.
Jaelyn Han had a goal per half for JFK as well, while Cadence Guzman, Mylie Navarro and Ariyani Magbanua dropped in a goal apiece.
“The girls were excited to play after a long break (after spring break and Super Tyhoon Sinlaku) and it was nice to get back on track after losing to St. John’s (3-2),” Manansala added.
JFK improved to 3-1-0, while Southern dropped to 1-2-1.
In the earlier game of the night, the Notre Dame Royals edged the Okkodo Bulldogs 2-1, scoring the decisive goal in the final minute of the match. ND moves to 3-1-0 with Okkodo dropping to 1-2-1,
The league-leading Knights beat the GW Geckos on Monday to stay undefeated at 4-0-0.
