Tuck strolls into the Octagon with the Guam flag draped over his shoulders, sinahi around his neck and jiu-jitsu gi. Jeff Clark, Marcos Oliveira and Big John Calvo on his corner, wearing white trunks. A bow and a prayer before entering the Octagon.

Zhang walks in with right arm raised, wearing blue trunks.

1st round

Tuck gauging his distance. A quick front kick. Zhang with the takedown after a few exchanges. Zhang with top control. Tuck tugging for the armbar. Tuck now with back control.Turns and has top mount with two minutes to go. Gets back control again. Almost getting the submission from behind. Chinese fans chanting “come on” in Mandarin. 30 seconds to go, Tuck still with back control. Tuck with a high kick that connects right before the buzzer. Marcos fanning Tuck while Clark gives instructions in between rounds.

2nd round

First time both fighters go beyond first round. Tuck with solid body kick. Both guys are banging, Tuck gets a cut on his forehead. Flying knee by Tuck forces action to the ground with Zhang on top. Ground game by both BJJ brown belts, rolling for position. Tuck back on top with good top control. Now with top mount with two minutes to go. Back control again for Tuck with a minute left. Corner giving Tuck instructions. Action ends on the ground. Looks like Tuck wins first two rounds.

3rd round

Zhang swings away but misses. More wild swings by Zhang. Nice jabs by Tuck. More jabs. Solid left. Another jab. Zhang lands. Tuck responds with a solid kick. Tuck smiles after a good exchange. Zhang mouthpiece almost flies out. Both fighters bleeding. Tuck showing his standup and accurate jabs and left crosses.  Zhang comes in and lands but Tuck jabs back. All standup here. Another jab by Tuck.  30 seconds. More right jabs.

TUCK WINS THIS! 29-28, 30-27, 29-28

Mizugaki wins by unanimous decision

Caceres wins by split decision

Guam Blooded: Braydon Griffin, a senior shortstop at San Pedro High School in Los Angeles, has made his college commitment to Westmont College in Santa Barbara.

Guam’s Wayne Blas completed his 13th Boston Marathon and 38th marathon overall.
The island’s record holder in the distance, Blas finished this year in 2:35:21.
“I’m very happy with this result because seven months ago, I was sidelined with a stress fracture that kept me out for three months. No running! To come back on an abbreviated marathon build and finish one of the toughest races strong and healthy was a big win for me.”
His time of 2:29:38 at the 2023 Chicago Marathon and World Marathon Majors Age Group Championships stands as the Guam National Record.
