PRESS RELEASE – This past Sunday out at the Guam International Raceway the truly hardcore mud loving off road racers were prepped and eager for the start of round 2 of the six round Monster Energy Offroad Monsoon Race Series. With the week prior to this past Sunday being mostly rain and had seen very little if no sunshine the course for the round 2 event was a soggy one. Participants however were ready and looking forward to the challenging wet conditions brought on by Mother Nature. The racing kicked off at 1 pm and saw a two motocross heat type format for each of the respective classes. Classes included both atv and motorcycles for full sized machines along with for youth size mini classes.

At the start of the first of two heats Guam reigning motocross champ #42 JR Cepeda aboard his Al Kilgore prepared Johnstone Supplies supported Kawasaki took the early lead with #3 Jacob Einloth on a Yamaha close behind in second. Fighting for third was #98 Marshal Vawter jr. on a Yamaha working to get around #717 William Dunn who was also competing aboard a Yamaha. The four front runners were on a fast pace when officials brought out the red flag on the third lap signifying a stop to the race. It appeared a large stray dog had joined in on the race and was in danger of becoming road kill besides endangering the racers themselves. After the unwanted participant was coaxed off the course a restart saw JR Cepeda once more grab the lead which he kept all the way to the heat one finish. Einloth took a second with Vawter jr. having a better jump off the restart to take third. Dunn placed fourth.
In heat two Cepeda looked to be again the leader but within just a few laps the #3 of Einloth had his Yamaha along side the champs Kawasaki challenging for the lead. The duo battled for several laps before Einloth made a spectacular pass and made it stick. Einloth went on to pull away to take the heat win for the round 2 Open Motorcycle class overall win. Cepeda took second for a second overall with Vawter jr. taking a third for a third overall. With his consistent finishes Marsha Vawter jr. now leads the series with 80 points over William Dunn who sits in second with 72 points. #31 Tim Wenden relinquishes first in the standings for third with 50 points.
In the Kids Mini Atv class the young Jordan Leon Guerrero aboard his #23 DRX took a win in heat one and then a third in heat two for a first place overall for the round. Jordan also leads the current class series standings. Taking second place was #99 Victoria Clark aboard a Rocky Mountain Precast supported Apex. Third place went to #75 Jesse Leon Guerrero aboard his DRX.
In the Open Atv class with mud flying a pair of first time racers went at it with Yamaha mounted Ray Aromin taking first and James Gumabon also aboard a Yamaha placing second.
Up next will be round 3 of the Monster Energy Offroad Monsoon Race Series on Sunday October 21st. The event will see the big Open atv and motorcycle classes racing a loop for 45 minutes. The loop will consist of rugged back country single track jungle trails along with portions of both the Shell V-Power Smokin Wheels course and the high flying motocross course. Gates open at 9 am at the Guam International Raceway Rt15 Yigo with racing scheduled to start at 1pm with a full day of off road racing.
