The Sanchez Sharks did not allow the Okkodo Bulldogs an offensive possession until midway through the second quarter.
The Sharks used an efficient offensive scheme combined with great special teams play to end Okkodo’s two-game hot streak with a big 20-0 win Friday night at the Bulldogs’ home field in Dededo. Rain has not been kind to football fans early this season and it continued its downpour having drenched half the field in a wet and muddy mess making it impossible not to be soaked in water. However, the weather had no affect on the Sharks as they proved when the going gets rainy, the better off they are having scored their highest point total in the season thus far.
Lorenzo Flores hauled in the first points for the Sharks off a play-action pass as his squad methodically marched down the field using a lot of clock in the first quarter.
“Coach just told me to run a flat, I ran it, saw I was open, and caught the ball,” Flores stated with confidence.

The Sharks’ running attack punished the Bulldogs throughout the game as runners Dondre Barnes and Johnny Aguon found much success bouncing to the outside. Barnes cashed in with a game sealing run in the fourth quarter to push the game to 20-0.
“Our offensive line did a great job at opening the holes, our running backs took advantage of the holes and we just ran it down their throat. They couldn’t stop us,” Flores further stated.
After Flores scored, the Sharks recovered the ball on the very next play having stripped the Bulldogs’ return man on the kickoff while recovering the ball on. After punching in another six points on the ground, the Sharks turned an off target kick into another offensive possession as the Bulldogs were unable to recover the following kickoff.
When the Bulldogs finally got a chance to run an offensive play, it resulted in a safety. The Bulldogs were backed up in their end zone and running back Earl Bascon took a short hand-off and tried to bounce to the outside of the end zone but failed to get out of dangerous territory as the swarming Sharks-D dragged him down.
The Sharks’ defense did not let up in the second half grabbing an interception, forcing a fumble, and swatting away passes, nullifying the Bulldogs’ offense. Okkodo’s Calvin Muna had his touchdown streak snapped after being held without a touchdown for the first time in two games. Muna got both of his previous touchdowns off a punt return.
When asked about the team’s win, if it were strategy to play keep away from the Bulldogs, assistant coach Mike Robang admitted, “This was purely out of nowhere, we just wanted to get another win. It’s a good win for us to include in this season but we have to just stick playing our game and no one else’s.”
The Shark continue to impress early on this season and will face off against the struggling Southern Dolphins next weekend while the Bulldogs get the chance to face off against the Guam High Panthers. The Sharks improve to (2-1) tying the Bulldogs at (2-1) as well.
