ASC ISLANDERS TAKE U14 SILVER BRACKET

PRESS RELEASE – Devan Mendiola’s brace secured the ASC Islanders 2-0 victory over the Sidekicks in the final of the Chevrolet Robbie Webber Youth League U14 division silver bracket playoffs at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

The Islanders, the top contenders in the silver bracket, went 3-0 in the round-robin playoff rounds, defeating Tumon Soccer Club, the Mini Masakåda and the Sidekicks in early rounds to earn a spot in the silver bracket final. The Islanders scored 19 goals in three playoff games and allowed only one before the final against the Sidekicks. The Mini Masakada managed to score once against the Islanders in the U14 playoffs.

In the other U14 silver bracket third-place match, the Mini Masakåda ended its youth league season with a shut out win over Tumon Soccer Club. The Mini Masakåda, Guam’s U14 girls national team, currently are training for the AFC U14 Girls Regional Tournament set for June 2 to 9 in Beijing, China.

In the gold bracket of the U14 division playoffs, the Wings secured their spot in the final, boasting three shut-out wins in three playoff games after blanking the Strykers. The Wings are set to face Community First Dededo Soccer Club in the final scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday. Community First earned its final berth after defeating Quality Distributors 4-1 in the third round of playoffs.

Quality will play for third place against the Strykers at 1 p.m. Saturday. In the teams’ earlier meeting in the playoffs, Quality edged the Strykers 2-1 on April 13.

In the U17 division, the Sidekicks defeated Quality Red 4-2, the ASC Islanders Betde beat the Wolverines 4-1, the Cobras upended the ASC Islanders Apaka and the Strykers blanked Community First Dededo Soccer Club 3-0.

U17 division matches continue Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. with the final match at 12:30 p.m. The U17 division schedule is available for download online at GuamFootball.com
