PRESS RELEASE – George Washington scored four runs in the 6th inning to squeeze by Southern in IIAAG softball action at GW. After four scoreless innings, Southern scored twice in the fifth inning to take a 2-0 lead. Alexis Aguero (1-4) led off the 6th with a single. Aguero IIAAG logo 1-13stole second. She later scored on GW errors. Misty Santos (2-4) reached base on an error and later scored on a sacrifice bunt by Sasha Dirigie (1-3). GW failed to score in the bottom of the 5th as Southern pitcher Alexis Santos continued to stymie the GW batters.
Southern increased their lead run in the 6th. Kimbelee Bamba lead off with a single and later scored on a Teresa Santos bunt. Bamba was able to score from third making the score 3-0 for Southern after 6 1/2 innings.
GW finally broke threw to scored four runs in the bottom of 6th. Colleen Quinata led off with a walk. Next batter, Tiana Perez singled scoring Quinata. Southern then made a pitching change hoping to halt the Geoko rally. Alexis Aguero came in from center to relieve Alexi Santos. Aguero walked the first batter, Celeen Mendiola. Tiana Perez eventually came around to score on errors. Leandra Castro  then singled scoring Mendiola, knotting the score at three.  Ritana Pocaigue singled, advancing Castro to 2nd. Next batter, Marcel Manabat singled moving Castro to third. Chelsay San Miguel then bunted, squeesing Castro from third and giving GW the 4-3 lead.
In the 7th, Southern’s first batter flied to short center for the first out. The next batter lined to third for the second out. The next Southern batter walked.  Then GW pitcher Pocaigue struck out the next Southern batter to end the game.
Pocaigue finshed the complete game victory allowing four hits with eight strike outs, one walk, two hit batters, and three runs. Alexis Santos for Southern gave up only two hits while striking out four, walking two, and gave up two runs. GW improves to 7-2 and Southern drops to 7-1. Wednesday, Southern travels to Yigo to play Simon Sanchez and GW plays Academy at GW.
