PRESS RELEASE – It was a hot, late morning game at the 2013 Asia-Pacific and Middle East Little League Tournament for the 13-year old Intermediate Guam All-Star team who was facing Indonesia in a pivotal matchup of 2-1 teams. With temperatures reaching the 90’s, it was the Indonesia All-star team that got off to the hot start by hitting a 3-run homerun off Guam’s Auron Eclevea in the 1st inning to take a 3-0 lead.
Eclevea, however, would settle in and hold the Indonesia bats in check until the 4th inning when a defensive throwing error allowed a 4th run to cross the plate for Indonesia.
Down 4-0 going into the bottom of the fourth, the Guam All-Stars finally got a clutch hit from Rico Seman, driving in their first run and providing a boost of confidence to the team.
With Eclevea hitting his stride at the mound, he sparked a rally in the bottom of the 5th inning with an infield single. Reed Seman came up next and smacked an RBI-double to make it a 4-2 ballgame. Later in the inning, with two outs and with two strikes on him, Javier Lujan would provide all the 4th of July fireworks the Guam crowd wanted, lighting up the Philippine sky with a 3-run go-ahead homerun!
With the run support he needed and with a one-run lead in his hip pocket, Eclevea would deliver a masterful complete game performance, shutting down the strong Indonesia bats over the next two innings.
Guam is now firmly in control of their own destiny with a “win and get in” game against CNMI on Friday morning at 8 am. The top two teams from the 6-team field advance to the Championship Game on Saturday at 8 am here at Clark Freeport Zone, Philippines.
In other action at the ASPAC ’13 Tournament, the Big League Guam All-Stars defeated the Philippines All-Star team 7-4, evening their record at 2-2 and keeping them in contention for the championship game on Sunday.
