SHARKS BLOW OUT EAGLES

In the only boys basketball game Tuesday night, the Sanchez Sharks defeated the Harvest Eagles 47-18 at the northern gymnasium.

Playing an essential part in the win, Sharks’ Ralph De Vera stated, “All we needed to do was to play defense.”
And defense was what the Sharks surely displayed as they were able to force the Eagles to 34 turnovers in the game.

To get things started, the Sharks applied man-to-man pressure and full court traps to disrupt the Eagles offense. The score was deadlocked at zero for almost two minutes in the first quarter until Sharks’ Dean Nilo found a gap in the lane and took it up strong completing the “and one” layup. From then on the Sharks offense flowed with excellent ball movement, team execution, and easy lay-ups caused off turnovers.

The Sharks came off halftime with intensity and forced three straight turnovers on the Eagles to start the third quarter. The Eagles could not find an answer scoring just three points going into the fourth.

“We just needed to stay in front of the ball and steal it when it’s there,” De Vera said of his team’s defense.

The Sharks defense carried on into the fourth quarter to close the game. Leading the Sharks was De Vera, sharpshooting his way to 12 points. The Eagles were short handed as two key players, Jordan Javellana and Kaipo Sotelo, did not play due to injury. Rio Oshiro had the game high with 13 points.
