PRESS RELEASE- Community Advocates of the Raceway (CAR) is pleased to report that more than 13,000 signatures in support of keeping the Guam International Raceway in Yigo and choices of the preliminary alternative sites of the relocation were collected in 25 days (By enthusiast and their families on their own as well as collection points at the Raceway, at Napa Auto Parts Stores and other local businesses, at Guam Premiere Outlets, and at the Micronesia Mall Stadium Theater lobby) to submit during the one month commenting period which ended on December 10, 2012 for the Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) that was done by mail submission and online on the guambuildupeis.us website. The 3 major components of the expanded SEIS include: 1.) Main Cantonment, including family housing. 2.) Live-Fire Training Range Complex. 3.) Assessment of associated impacts to Guam’s civil infrastructure, including roadways.

CAR’s choice of Main Cantonment Preliminary Alternatives is NCTS Finegayan/South Finegayan, and Live-Fire Training Range Complex Preliminary Alternatives in Northwest Field. “We felt these alternatives work BEST as it will make use of the properties that the Federal Government already owns, it will consolidate everything in one location, relieve anticipated vehicle traffic on Guam’s thoroughfares by making the Main Cantonment and Live-Fire training range accessible within the gate, and not acquire additional private and local government land.“

CAR and its supporters believe that these locations will help lead to a successful Guam build-up. CAR supports the Military relocation to Guam and believes that the Guam International Raceway (GIR) will be a valuable recreational resource for both the military and civilian population of Guam.

CAR would like to thank the people of Guam, local businesses, and off-island race competitors for all their support assisting us in gathering as many signatures as we did in such a short period of time.

The next big event at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo is the 32nd Annual Shell V-Power Smokin Wheels event presented by the Guam Visitors Bureau, scheduled for the weekend of April 12, 13, 14, 2013. This huge event draws competitors from all over the region with thousands in attendance over this action packed weekend. “We encourage everyone to mark their calendars for another exciting weekend.”
