Budweiser Amateur Baseball League action continued this weekend with the Cardinals young players continuing to step up and the Rays try to extend to a 3 game win streak.

Agat Cardinals 14, Yona Redhawks 7

The Agat Cardinals youth movement continues to bring wins as the Cardinals downed the Redhawks 14-7 in Saturday afternoon action at Leo Palace Resort.

The Cardinals were ignited by the Sablan brothers-Nick, Nathan and Austin combined to go 9 for 10 with seven runs and five rbi who shared Strike Zone Player of the Game honors.

The Cardinals scored early and by the time the Redhawks had scored in the 4th inning the lead was 12-4 Agat. The Redhawks did battle back with five runs in the 5th inning with an rbi double by Gavin Dirige sparking the rally. But it was too little too late for the Redhawks who would go down to the Cardinals with a 14-7 final.

Cards starting pitcher Vince Villasoto went 3 innings allowing one earned run to get the win. The Cardinals are tied for 2nd place in the Amateurs with a 4-1 record. Darren Pablo was 1 for 3 with two runs and 4 stolen bases for the Redhawks who drop to 1-4 on the season.

Rays 9 Agana Heights Blues 2

In the Saturday nightcap the Rays won their third game in a row with a 9-2 win over the Agana Heights Blues. The Rays scored runs in the 1st inning and Rays starting pitcher Billy Quenga and John Pangelinan combined to allow only 7 hits and 1 earned run over 7 innings to pick up the win.

Ray Apiag and Jacob Quintanilla had two hits each for the Blue who fall to 0-6 on the season. The Rays ride a three game win streak and improve to 3-1.

QUICK HITS

The JFK Islanders won the first ever Memorial Weekend High School Basketball Tournament.

The All-Tournament selection were Zhion Macapinlac JFK, Darwin Ecijan JFK, Matthew Quinata Southern, and Malcom Fernandez Tiyan.

JFK’s Collin Rillamas was named tournament MVP.

The Prospects captured the Guam PONY Colt Spring Baseball League (14-16) championship Saturday with a masterful 2-0 win over the Smokies.
Pitchers Gavin Alcantara (5 innings) and Javier Taimanglo (2 innings) combined to throw a no-hitter.
Taimanglo and Juan Carlo Presnell drove in the two runs for the Prospects, and Skyler Paulino had two hits.
