BLUE JAYS LEAD MASTERS TITLE SERIES

Bobby Dean goes 3-for-3 and JP Aguon pitches four scoreless innings as the Blue Jays take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.

PRESS RELEASE – The 2014 Guam Budweiser Masters Baseball League (GBMBL) Championship Series got underway Thursday after several rain outs in the playoffs schedule. At Paseo Stadium, the Triple J Blue Jays took Game 1 in the Best-of-Three Series by a close 5-4 margin over the Maimai Marlins.

J.P. Aguon pitched four scoreless innings for the Blue Jays with Triple J holding on to a 2-0 lead after four complete. The Marlins came back in the top of the 5th, touching up Triple J reliever Russ Maratita for three runs, to take a 3-2 lead.

Triple J answered back in the bottom of the 5th with three runs off of Marlins reliever Tommy Duenas for the 5-3 lead after five complete.

Maimai came up short in the top of the 6th with just one run and could not score in the top of the 7th.

Russ Maratita ends up taking the win while Tommy Duenas suffered the loss.

Triple J takes a 1-0 series lead with the win. Game 2 will take place on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. Game 3 if necessary, will be played on Monday at 6:30 p.m. All games at Paseo Stadium.

In the nightcap, a Consolation Bracket quarterfinal rescheduled between the Kosrae Masters and the Air Force Reserves. The Air Force Reserves getting on the scoreboard early with five runs in the bottom of the 1st and got four insurance runs in the bottom of the 5th. Frank Torres got the win while Alik Skilling took the loss. With the win, the Air Force Reserves advance to play the Twins in a semifinal playoff game scheduled for Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

Guam’s Jeremiah Camacho shot a perfect game at the 48th Hong Kong Open. The 22-year-old Guam National Team Member shot his 18th career perfect game on lanes 1 and 2 at Top Bowl Lanes in Hong Kong.
