2014 Guam Christmas Motocross
This past Sunday, Guam’s motocross racers and fans were out at the Guam International Raceway for the third of four holiday stand alone non point motocross events. Sundays event dubbed the 2014 Guam Christmas Motocross was laid out as to help keep Guam’s championship contenders racing skills sharp in anticipation of the 2015 championship season and also as a starting point for those riders who are interested in participating in next years championship. The course was fairly easy but created great opportunities for close bar banging racing.
Highlights
In the premier Open Motorcycles class veteran racer #57 Kim Aiken on a Kawasaki leaped out to an early lead on lap one but was quickly passed on lap two by rookie racer Mike Shaffer aboard his numberless Honda. Shaffer quickly pulled away and led every lap from that point to the finish to take the win. Kim Aiken took second on his Kawasaki with #13 Honda mounted Bronson Robinson taking third. Fourth overall went to #100 Steve Turo who had been running up front in the top three until going down in a crash on his Kawasaki. #768 James Gallagher on his Yamaha rounding out the top five overall.
In the kids Mini Bike class it was #2 Stoney Bucek on the Cycles Plus Kawasaki swapping the lead with newly crowned mini bike champion #1 Sasha Song on his Honda. Bucek had taken an early lead and had pulled away from the field only to have been reeled in by the second part of the event from the champ Sasha Song. Song took the lead in the second half with Bucek slipping back to second. Song was able to put distance on Bucek for a while but Bucek slowly reeling him back in during the last few laps of the event.
With just two laps to go Song the leader had a bit of a mechanical miscue as his machine stalled in a tight corner. Songs miscue was an early Christmas gift for Bucek who took back the lead to take the win. Taking second was #11 Honda mounted Blaze Aiken with #25 Ethan Turo on his Kawasaki placed third. After several attempts Sasha Song was able to re-fire his machine to take fourth with #12 Yuna Song rounded out the top five. Coming in first in the 65cc mini bike class and sixth overall was #50 Owen Turo on his Kawasaki.
Up next will be the final holiday stand alone motocross event on Sunday January 11th. The 2015 New Years Motocross will be free to come out and watch and will take place at the Guam International Raceway and start at 12noon.
