LEO PALACE PARK- The Rays downed the Chalan Pago Amigos 11-3 to close out the 104 game regular season for the Budweiser Amateur Baseball League at Leo Palace Resort. Jay Santos would pick up the win for the Rays and Lance Santos goes 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored to earn Strike Zone Player of the Game.
The Rays close out the regular season at 14-6 to take the AAA Division Pennant and have the #1 seed for the King of the Diamond Championship Tournament. The Amigos hold the #4 seed in the AAA Division and will face the Rays again in the first round matchup on Saturday at 6pm. The Amigos handed the Rays two of their six losses as they split their regular season matchups 2-2. The AAA Division playoffs will kick off on Thursday at 7pm with the #2 seed Agat Cardinals taking on the #3 seed Dongo Yigolos. The Cards took three out of four games from the Yigolos in the regular season.
In the AA Division the Yona Redhawks finish the regular season at 10-9 to take the AA Division Pennant and the #1 seed for the King of the Diamond Championship Tournament.. The AA Division King of the Diamond Tournament starts Wednesday September 3rd with the #2 seed Vipers taking on the #3 seed Ralphy’s Blue Jays. The Vipers took two out of three games from the Blue Jays during the regular season. The#1 seed Redhawks take on the #4 seed Agana Heights Blues Saturday at 3pm.
The AAA and AA Division King of the Diamond Championships are double elimination with best of three Championship Series a format used in the College World Series. The Best of three Championship Series for AAA and AA Divisions are scheduled to start September 14th at Leo Palace Baseball Stadium. The JFK Islanders won the first ever Memorial Weekend High School Basketball Tournament.
The All-Tournament selection were Zhion Macapinlac JFK, Darwin Ecijan JFK, Matthew Quinata Southern, and Malcom Fernandez Tiyan.
JFK’s Collin Rillamas was named tournament MVP.
