2014 Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships Round 6
The sixth of the fifteen round 2014 Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships was held this past Sunday May 4th at the Guam International Raceway. The motocross course was in excellent condition for what turned into a day of close bar to bar racing. The sun was out and it was hot, hot, hot! Classes ranged from the kids minibike and mini atv classes to the full barreled ground rumbling big bores of the Open Motorcycle and atv classes. Racing kicked off at noon and wrapped up just after 4pm. The event was open free of charge to all those who wanted to enjoy watching a day of high flying motocross action.
High Lights Results
In the Open Motorcycle class going undefeated this season the reigning two time Guam motocross champion #1 JR Cepeda just simply dominated the event as he has been doing all season making round six his sixth round win of the season. Cepeda is quickly proving to be one of Guam’s best motocross racers and action sports athletes ever. Having multiple minibike along with several mini atv class championship titles Cepeda took his first premier Open Motorcycle class championship in 2012 at just 14 years old. Cepeda racing with support from Cycles Plus Kawasaki and Johnstone Supplies followed that up in 2013 by successfully defending that title and by dominating both the 2013 and 2014 Guam Smokin Wheels Weekends.
With Cepeda dominating the race the battle for second was on between #59 Caleb Barretto who was the only rider who managed to run with Cepeda for at least a few laps at the start of the race. Barretto at one point after battling with Cepeda had begun to fade back as he appeared to be checking for a possible problem with his machine allowing vet rider #57 Kim Aikens to close up and challenge for the second place position. Barretto aboard a Cycles Plus Kawasaki how ever was quickly back on the throttle leaving the vet rider to battle for third.
At the checkers it was Barretto who took second and in the closing laps another vet rider #75 Jeff Rios aboard a Honda supported by Autoworks slipped by Aikens to take third place. Aikens took fourth with #15 Matt Guzman taking fifth.
In the Open Atv class #1 Robert Bucek aboard the Cycles Plus Suzuki took the win over #15 Albert Garlit on his Kawasaki while #66 Yamaha mounted Jeric Johnson took a third.
In the Open Minibike class 9 year old #11 Sasha Song the field’s youngest rider aboard his Kawasaki out rode the rest of his older competition to take the win and there by move himself up into a tie with #8 Ry’niko Camacho for the championship points lead. Taking second was #111 Ethan Manibusan aboard a Honda with defending champion #1 Stoney Bucek on the Cycles Plus Kawasaki placing a solid third. #25 Ethan Turo on his Kawasaki took home fourth place with #8 Ry’niko Camacho on a Yamaha placing fifth.
In the 65cc Minibike class #50 Owen Turo took the early lead and cruised to the round 6 win with #4 Tobin Perez in second and #76 Deven Encina in third. Fourth went to #31 Robert Encina who was followed by #23 Jordan Leon Guerrero in fifth.
In the Kids Mini Atv class #7 Darian Chang took the win with #6 Zion Manibusan in second and Damian Manibusan placing third.

Minibike class #25 Ethan Turo was in the thick of the fight all day and took a 4th place overall finish.
