LEO PALACE PARK- The Bud Light Women’s Fast-Pitch League season opener was Saturday night under the lights at Leo Palace Resort with the Lady Rangers taking on Northern Mix.  The Lady Rangers would jump out to an early lead and then have to hold off a relentless Northern Mix team for a 13-10 win.

Latoya Mojica lead the offense for the Lady Rangers going three for four with two runs and rbi and a stolen base to pick up Strike Zone Player of the Game.  Kayla Edwards finished two for three with two runs and an rbi to get player of the game for Northern Mix.

Down 7-2 going into the bottom of the 3rd inning the Northern Mix would rally for four runs to cut the lead to 7-6. Edwards would start the rally with a single and Melba Nennis would follow with a long double to center.  Shannon Santos would drive in Edwards with an rbi single and Nennis would come in to score on an error.  Desiree Cabrera would cap the rally with rbi single.

Great defense by Northern Mix would keep the game close with the highlight being a rally killing throw by left fielder Sherika Cabrera nailing the runner at 3rd base to end the inning.

But the Lady Rangers offense would answer scoring three runs in the 5th inning and three more in the top of the 6th inning to take a 13-7 lead going into the Northern Mix final at bats.  Mojica and Veronica Ignacio would cap it off with back to back rbi doubles to give the Rangers some insurance runs.  Ignancio would finish two for three with a double, stolen base and two runs scored.  Taijeron also had two hits for the Lady Rangers.

Northern Mix would battle in their last at bats with Cabrera reaching on an error and coming into score on an rbi groundout by Edward.  Nennis would also get on by error and Santos would follow with an rbi double cutting the score to 13-10 Lady Rangers.  But Lean Meeks would get the final out on a liner to the shortstop to pick up the win for the Lady Rangers.
