2015 GYAI SET TO TIP OFF SUNDAY

2015 Governor’s Youth Athletics Invitational is pleased to announce that for two weeks beginning this Sunday October 25th several of our island’s young athletes will showcase their skills in both basketball and volleyball competitions while hosting several teams from the Philippines .

PRESS RELEASE – 2015 Governor’s Youth Athletics Invitational (GYAI)

Hagatna, Guam – 2015 Governor’s Youth Athletics Invitational is pleased to announce that for two weeks beginning this Sunday October 25th several of our island’s young athletes will showcase their skills in both basketball and volleyball competitions while hosting several teams from the Philippines .

The 4th Annual event will feature six divisions in basketball competition. Teams representing the Philippines include: San Beda, University of Santo Tomas, Santa Rosa City, De La Salle-LIPA, Our Lady of Caysasay Academy, Beacon Academy, and Easy Way Women’s Basketball Team from Brunei.

Hosting teams from Guam include: St. Anthony School, Hawks, Wildcats, Roadrunners, St. John’s School, St. Paul School, Fortune Realty, Guahan Masters, Guam Reflections, and Lady Bombers.

Basketball action will start on October 25th and run all the way through October 31st with games taking place at various sites to include University of Guam, Saint Anthony School, and St. John’s School. Action on the court will then return with a Women’s Division scheduled to play from November 6th to November 8th where three Guam teams will host the Easy Way Women’s Basketball team.

Looking for more sports action, 15-under female athletes will add to the mix of events on the volleyball court as three Guam teams will host two teams from the Philippines for action on October 29th, 30th, and November 1st. Guam will be represented by: Manhoben, Lady Raiders White, and Lady Raiders Blue. The Philippines will be represented by: De La Salle-ST and Pampanga Youth Select. Games for volleyball will take place at UOG for the first two days and then shift to St. Anthony School for playoffs and championship games.

QUICK HITS

Guam’s Wayne Blas completed his 13th Boston Marathon and 38th marathon overall.
The island’s record holder in the distance, Blas finished this year in 2:35:21.
“I’m very happy with this result because seven months ago, I was sidelined with a stress fracture that kept me out for three months. No running! To come back on an abbreviated marathon build and finish one of the toughest races strong and healthy was a big win for me.”
His time of 2:29:38 at the 2023 Chicago Marathon and World Marathon Majors Age Group Championships stands as the Guam National Record.
