ROUND 8: GUAM MOTORCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS

PRESS RELEASE – The Guam International Raceway was the place to be this past Sunday regardless of the threat of an approaching typhoon. The eighth round of the twelve round Monster Energy 2015 Guam Motocross Championships was held under somewhat muddy conditions which made for an abundance of bar banging out at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo. It was free to drive out and watch and besides the somewhat questionable weather conditions a fairly large crowd of family and friends were there cheering on the racers.

Race Highlights

In the Open Motorcycle class multi time reigning Guam champion #1 JR Cepeda aboard the Cycles Plus Kawasaki was once again the man to beat as he muscled into the lead and went on to take the checkers. After eight rounds Cepeda has taken a 61 point lead with 387 points over his next closest competition #277 Honda mounted Michael Shaffer who has 326 points.

In the Open Atv class #83 Daniel Champion aboard a Suzuki also had muscled his machine into the lead to take that class win. A heated battle for second through fourth had taken place and had the crowd on its feet as a trio of Yamaha riders were bouncing of each other as they flew over jumps and slamming each other through the turns. Once the mud and carnage had cleared it was first time racer #8 Mike Taimanglo on a Yamaha Banshee taking the second place position with his brother #7 Matt Taimanglo taking 3rd place aboard a Yamaha Yfz450 and #11 John Gilman also Yamaha Yfz450 mounted taking fourth. #83 Daniel Champion has now taken a clear lead in the championship standings with 309 points over second place in the standings #7 Matt Taimanglo who has 262 points.

In the Kids Open Minibike class reigning class champion #1 Sasha Song on his Honda swept the event to take the in and launch himself into the championship points lead.

Taking second was #75 Owen Rios on the Autoworks upported Kawasaki with #12 Yuna Song taking third. The rst of the field finished as follows

#76 Deven Encina on the Phillips and Sons supported KTM took the win with the #50 of Owen Turo on a Kawasaki taking second. Third went to the hard charging #20 Gavin Whitt on a Kawasaki with #25 Laurence Limtiaco on a Kawasaki taking fourth.

Round 9 of the Monster Energy 2015 Guam Motocross Championships will be held on Sunday August 30th at the Guam International Raceway. Gates open at 9am with racing set to begin at 11 30am. But up first for our islands motocross fans and racers will be the Barrigada Fiesta Motocross part of the Monster Energy Guam Fiesta Series on Sunday, August 23rd.
