WEIGH INS SHAKE UP STAKES FOR PXC 50

The Pacific Xtreme Combat (PXC) will hold its golden 50th event Friday night at the UOG Calvo Field house in Mangilao with the doors opening at 530pm and the first fight taking place at 730pm. The fight promoters and PXC executive committee members said they wanted to give the fight fans a special treat to show their appreciation for their continued patronage and support.

The fights card is guaranteed to please the crowd with PXC matchmakers Ken San Nicolas and Ed Calvo gathering the best local and regional talent to gather together to make PXC 50 a memorable event.

The weigh-ins were held Thursday afternoon at Cars Plus in Maite with most fighters making weight. However, there were a few issues after weight results were announced.

According to Calvo, Frank ‘The Crank’ Camacho (17-3) did not make weigh, but the fight will still resume with a few conditions. Camacho was scheduled to go against Guam’s Tyrone Jones for the vacated lightweight title.

“Camacho will still fight Tyrone Jones to headline PXC 50 but if Camacho should win, he will not be given the title belt. If Jones wins, he will be crowned as the PXC champion,” said Calvo.

Jones (5-4) was happy the fight will still take place and he is eager to showcase his skills in the biggest fight of his career.

“Even though he didn’t make weight I’m still going in with the same game plan. I’m going to continue to be well-rounded and I’ll be prepared for whatever I got to do,” said Jones.

The female fight between Guam’s Tessa Simpson (3-1) and New Mexico’s Celine Haga (8-13) was scratched from the card after Haga missed her weight cut.

Haga was not present at the initial weigh in time but showed up later to take the scales. Haga, who looked exhausted from trying to cut weight, was still unable to make weight. Simpson’s team members said the weight difference was too significant and the fight was taken off from the card.

Main event

The main event will be for the PXC featherweight title between the champion Yusuke ‘Krazy Bee’ Yachi (13-4) from Japan and Australia’s Alex ‘the Hulk’ Volkanovski (10-1). “It’s unreal, it’s a cracker of a card,” said Volkanovski. “I’m stoked to be on the card. I love the island, the people and I can’t wait to get in the cage. I’m pumped!”

Brogan ‘Killer Bee’ Walker (2-0) and Mike Sanchez (2-1), aka the Power Couple, will each make their third PXC show together. Walker will be the only female fight on the card as she takes on decorated boxer Emiko ‘Fujin’ Raika (2-2) from Japan. Sanchez will go up against another local fan favorite Josh Alvarez (12-7). Alvarez makes a return to the PXC cage after fighting in other organizations in Asia.

“I’m excited to be on the card and also excited to fight at home again,” said Alvarez. “Every fight will be a good one. For my fight I look to hopefully stand and bang and give the fans what they want,” said Alvarez.

Cousins Roman and Shane Alvarez are also on the fight card with teammates Camacho and Josh ‘Chaos’ Duenas (4-5) from Trench Tech Saipan. Shane ‘Pickaboo’ Alvarez said he is humbled to be on the 50th edition of the PXC.

‘Pikaboo’ (11-2) said it is an honor to be in the PXC, an organization he said harvested many fighters who have moved up to the UFC to have successful careers.

“We’ve all fought on PXC fight cards that had some fighters move up to the UFC,” said Pikaboo. “I’m just excited for tomorrow because we are all on the same card for the golden PXC event. We’ve trained together to make this event and we are all eager to show everyone our talent”.

“If you haven’t got your tickets to watch PXC 50, I don’t what you are waiting for,” said Roman ‘Sonic Boom’ Alvarez (5-0). Roman said the fight card is stacked from bottom to top so MMA fight fans are in for a special treat. “They put us in this card to showcase our skills so expect fireworks (on Friday night)”.
