Guam’s historic run in the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Pre-Qualifiers ended in 6-0 fashion after the tiny island proved the best of the bunch in the Eastern Region after defeating Malaysia 101-78 in the final game of the tournament Saturday afternoon.
Guam locked up their spot as a top-four team after beating Macau, but the undefeated finish was icing on the cake.
Finishing on top of the Cup will allow Guam to venture into the next tier of competition in Asia with opportunities to play the likes of Australia, China and the Philippines.
The tournament’s leading scorer in Earnest Ross poured in 33 points in the final game, wrapping up a successful run with Team Guam. Guam used a 15-0 run in the 1st quarter and a strong defensive stand in the 4th quarter to hold off a late rally.
