Colonia, Yap – It was smooth sailing again for Guam’s men’s basketball team as they knocked out Chuuk in the quarterfinals of the 2018 Micro Games with a final score of 95-56. Guam will get a rest day Sunday before the playing in the semifinals on Monday.
Merwin Martin led the team in scoring with 18 points off the bench with Mekeli Wesley adding 15.
Chuuk kept it close in the 1st period by only trailing Guam 20-16, but the Guam defense shutdown Chuuk by holding them scoreless for the first seven minutes of the 2nd period, and just nine for the quarter. Guam sat comfortably up 39-25 at the half.
Guam stretched their lead to a commanding 69-34 by once again holding Chuuk to just nine points in the period. Martin splashed in one of his four threes right at the 3rd quarter buzzer with Guam firmly ahead.
