TRENCH QUALIFIERS ARE LONDON BOUND

TRENCH™ CHALLENGE, Guam’s Obstacle Course Race that took place at the Guam International Raceway on Sunday September 30th qualified over two-dozen athletes from the top 3 male and female finishers and top 5 in age groups to participate in the 2018 Obstacle Course Race World Championships being held next weekend October 19 – 21 at Kelvedon Hatch, London England. (They also qualified for the 2019 North American Championships scheduled for August 9-11 in Stratton, Vermont.)

Two time Trench Challenge Champion Tim Wenden will be racing in the Age Group 15km Distance 35 – 39 division and Age group 3km. TC Qualifiers in age group Billy “Ninja Ready” Navarrete and Michael Quitugua will also be racing in the 15km & 3km in their age group.

Lastly, Trench Challenge event and race director Tom Akigami will be participating in the Qualifying Race organizers OCR at the worlds.

Qualified: 1st Overall and 1st in age group at Trench Challenge 2018 Time 1:19:37.95

Competing in: 15k Standard Distance 35-39 Age Division & 3k 30-39 Age Division

Billy Navarrete

Qualified: 1st in age group and 3rd overall male at Trench Challenge 2018 Time 1:29:15.80

Competing in: 15k Standard Distance 25-29 Age Division & 3k 20-29 Age Division

Michael Quitugua

Qualified: 4nd in age group at Trench Challenge 2018 Time 1:38:53.58

Competing in: 15k Standard Distance 25-29 Age Division & 3k 20-29 Age Division

Guam will be one of 67 nations represented at OCRWC. These Three athletes from Guam will be representing the island at this level against the best athletes in the fastest growing sport in the world.  Catch live updates on the Trench Events Facebook Page and local news through the weekend. **TRENCH CHALLENGE has already opened registration for its next event scheduled for September 29th 2019. The early bird registration opens later this month.

QUICK HITS

The JFK Islanders won the first ever Memorial Weekend High School Basketball Tournament.

The All-Tournament selection were Zhion Macapinlac JFK, Darwin Ecijan JFK, Matthew Quinata Southern, and Malcom Fernandez Tiyan.

JFK’s Collin Rillamas was named tournament MVP.

The Prospects captured the Guam PONY Colt Spring Baseball League (14-16) championship Saturday with a masterful 2-0 win over the Smokies.
Pitchers Gavin Alcantara (5 innings) and Javier Taimanglo (2 innings) combined to throw a no-hitter.
Taimanglo and Juan Carlo Presnell drove in the two runs for the Prospects, and Skyler Paulino had two hits.
