FRIARS ATHLETIC DIRECTOR JOEY SANTOS PASSES AWAY

The Guam sports community was shaken Sunday after learning the passing of FD Friar Athletic Director Joey Santos had passed away after battling cancer over the past year.

Santos was an inside force with the JFK Islanders basketball team in the 1980s and represented Guam on several occasions.

“It is with a great sorrow that I write to you with this news.  We have lost a dear colleague, coach, mentor, and friend,” FD Principal Ismael Perez said in a mass email to alumni. “Coach Joey Santos was a health and physical education teacher, an athletic director, coach, and parent as well.  He joined us in 2009 and has been an integral part of our FDMS family.”

Many Friar students from the past decade took to twitter to share their fondest memories of Santos and plenty more offered their condolences to the Santos family over social media.
