ATSUTA LEADS EAGLES TO BIG WIN OVER KNIGHTS

Reigning league MVP scores two goals

By Matt Lorenzo
With the postseason quickly creeping up, the St. John’s Knights and the Harvest Eagles battled it out Thursday afternoon with identical records (4-2-0) in the IIAAG Boys Soccer League. At the end of the match, however, the host Eagles convincingly shot down the Knights 7-1.

The only team ahead of the defending champions now are the top-ranked FD Friars (5-0-1).

Harvest came out firing with senior midfielder Raito Atsuta scoring from just past mid field within the first five minutes of the game.

The Harvest offense was firing all afternoon with the ball hardly ever entering their own side. Late in the first half, Harvest senior David Thompson tapped in another goal.

In the second half, the St. John’s offense had a change of pace, playing more slowly and decisively. This change proved helpful with their lone goal in the game being scored midway through the second half by freshman Leo Akeboshi.

Atsuta quickly responded with his second goal from just past midfield. Levi Buckwalter also put in a goal with a controversial goal diving head first into the net with his foot seemingly on the Knights goalkeeper’s neck.

One more regular season game is on the schedule on Monday with the playoffs kicking off next Thursday.
