BOMBERS CONTROL STARS IN BATTLE OF TOP TEAMS

Two best men’s varsity teams on island

PRESS RELEASE – The anticipated match-up between the undefeated KFC Bombers and MVP Stars on Saturday in the UOG Calvo Field House turned into a Bomber rout in the first half, as KFC won the game 102-83 and Team OG took control of 3rd place in the Triton Men’s Basketball League with a 83-74 win over the Navy Bombers.

The KFC Bombers went up 28-16 in the first quarter behind 12 points by Jayden Finley and 10 points by Chris Conner. The Bombers kept the pressure on the Stars in the 2nd period outscoring the MVPs 27-15 in the period with Simpson Carrington scoring 16 points in the period for KFC and the Bombers were up by 24 points 55-31 at half-time.

Guam National Team player, Darren Hechanova, joined the Stars at halftime and started in the 3rd period and the MVPs won the 3rd quarter 26-18 with JP Cruz scoring 16 points for the Stars and cut the Bomber lead to 16 points at 73-57, but the Bombers controlled the 4th quarter and won the game 102-83.

Simpson Carrington led all scorers with 33 points for the KFC Bombers with Jayden Finley adding 27 points. JP Cruz led the MVP Stars with 23 points and Joe Blas added 21.

KFC is now 4-0 on the season while the MVPs fell to 3-1.

Team OG put a full 40 minute game together against the Navy Ballers on Saturday afternoon and defeated the Ballers 83-74. 

Team OG started slowly, trailing the Ballers 22-13 after the first period and continued to trail at halftime 39-32. But OG exploded in the third period for 32 points behind 17 points by AJ Grape and held the Ballers to 15 points to take a 10 point lead into the final quarter 64-54.

The Ballers would make several runs at Team OG in the final 10 minutes, but Team OG held them off and won the game by 9 points, 83-74.

Team OG was led by AJ Grape with 24 points followed by Red Aiken with 22 and Kyle Gaitan with 17. John Cristal led the Ballers with 15 points.

Team OG improves to 2-2 on the season while the Ballers fall to 1-2.

On Tuesday night, the Triton Men’s Basketball League returns with the MicroFriends facing the Navy Ballers at 6:30 pm and the UOG Tritons playing Team OG at 8:15 pm.

All games are played at the UOG Calvo Field House and are streamed “Live” on the UOG Athletic Facebook page.
