PRESS RELEASE – The 2023 Bongbong Marcos Cup, hosted by the Marcos Combat Shooters (MCS) and sanctioned by the Philippine Practical Shooting Association (PPSA), is now in the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) history books.
The match was held at the MCS Firing Range, Paoay, Ilocos Norte, and attended by over 750 competitors in all Divisions/Division Categories. Representing Guam, the Marianas Practical Shooting Association (MPSA), led by the Guahan Practical Shooting Club’s president, Mark McAuslen, were:
– Peter De Padua finished 23rd overall in the Open Division
– Rose De Padua (Lady Category) finished 4th in the Open Division/Lady Category
– Aundre Caballero (Super Junior Category) finished 5th in the Open Division/S—Junior Category
– Bong Alfonso finished 24th Overall in the Production Optics Division
– Ryan Unpingco finished 73rd Overall in the Production Optics Division
– Aaron Ferrer finished 87th Overall in the Pistol Caliber Carbine, Optics Division
The team delivered remarkable results, with Bong Alfonso and Peter De Padua outperforming their initial rankings in the match. Both Bong and Peter registered as C-class competitors. However, in the final tally, Bong finished in B-class (Production Optics Division), and Peter finished in A-class (Open Division). In addition, Bong earned an entry in the Class Award List for the Production Optics Division.
Their accomplishments are a great way to conclude the shooting season for 2023. We congratulate Bong and Peter for besting their registration classifications and the rest of the team for maintaining or establishing their classifications.
MPSA and its local clubs have pursued international recognition in the sport of practical shooting for over two years, and we are delighted to share our successes with Guam’s sports community.
Beginning in January 2024: MPSA’s affiliated clubs will host local shooting matches to establish a field of competitors and range officials to participate in the Australasia Handgun and Pistol Caliber Carbine (PCC) Championships to be held in Bali, Indonesia, in August 2024, and the IPSC Handgun World Shoot in Stilfontein, South Africa in September 2025! International competition is a game changer and a significant milestone for Guam’s shooting competitors and range officials. We faced many challenges and obstacles but never abandoned our vision and mission to bring world-class shooting athletes and range officials from Guam to the international practical shooting arena.
The Marianas Practical Shooting Association is the accepted and acknowledged national controlling entity of the sport of “Practical Shooting” in Guam. It is an affiliate of the International Practical Shooting Confederation. The National Range Officers Institute certifies Range Officers under the guidance and authority of the International Range Officers Association.
