ROYALS BREAK THROUGH WITH BIG WIN

Leon Guerrero goes the distance for ND

The Notre Dame Royals (2-2) and GW Geckos (1-1) both came into Tuesday night’s ISA baseball game at .500, but both with enough talent far beyond that mark.

The Royals, behind a complete game performance from Ricardo Leon Guerrero, handled the Geckos rather easily 9-1.

Elijah Asuncion went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI to lead the Royals, who got off to an 0-2 start (both losses to the FD Friars and Southern Dolphins) before reeling off three straight wins. Nolan Cruz added three hits for ND.

ND chipped away, scoring in every inning to eventually lead 9-0 before giving up an unearned run in the final inning. The Royals still have enough talent to possibly take them back to the championship game as they did in 2022.

In the nightcapper, the FD Friars continue to roll on easily beating the Guam High Panthers 21-3. The rain came down pouring in the third inning before both teams agreed to end it at that point.

QUICK HITS

Guam’s Wayne Blas completed his 13th Boston Marathon and 38th marathon overall.
The island’s record holder in the distance, Blas finished this year in 2:35:21.
“I’m very happy with this result because seven months ago, I was sidelined with a stress fracture that kept me out for three months. No running! To come back on an abbreviated marathon build and finish one of the toughest races strong and healthy was a big win for me.”
His time of 2:29:38 at the 2023 Chicago Marathon and World Marathon Majors Age Group Championships stands as the Guam National Record.
