MARIANAS OPEN TAKES MATS TO MANILA

Over 800 athletes set to compete this weekend

Manila, Philippines – Marianas Pro Manila is poised to make history as one of the  largest jiu-jitsu tournaments in the region, building on the success of previous events. This is the second sold-out international event, set to take place on Saturday through Sunday, April 20-21, has captured the global jiu-jitsu community’s attention with over  800 athletes ready to compete, including over 40 from Guam.  

Supported by the Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB), Marianas Pro Manila has gained remarkable momentum, positioning itself among the top three jiu-jitsu tournaments in Manila sanctioned by ASJJF (Asian Sport Jiu-Jitsu Federation). This growth is a testament to the dedication of both organizers and participants, transforming what began modestly into a prestigious event drawing thousands of athletes worldwide. 

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) for their  invaluable support of Marianas Pro Manila. Their commitment to promoting  sportsmanship, talent, and cultural exchange has been instrumental in making this  event a resounding success. GVB’s dedication has not only elevated the stature of jiu jitsu in the region but has also strengthened the enduring ties between Guam and the  Philippines. We are truly grateful for their unwavering support and partnership in  bringing this extraordinary tournament to fruition.

With over 800 athletes competing, Marianas Pro Manila showcases the excellence and camaraderie of athletes from around the world. Supported by the Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB), this sold-out event marks a significant milestone for the jiu-jitsu community, culminating in the 5-star ASJJF ranked grand finale—The Marianas Open International Championship, boasting an impressive $50,000 prize pool! The JFK Islanders won the first ever Memorial Weekend High School Basketball Tournament.

The All-Tournament selection were Zhion Macapinlac JFK, Darwin Ecijan JFK, Matthew Quinata Southern, and Malcom Fernandez Tiyan.

JFK’s Collin Rillamas was named tournament MVP.

The Prospects captured the Guam PONY Colt Spring Baseball League (14-16) championship Saturday with a masterful 2-0 win over the Smokies.
Pitchers Gavin Alcantara (5 innings) and Javier Taimanglo (2 innings) combined to throw a no-hitter.
Taimanglo and Juan Carlo Presnell drove in the two runs for the Prospects, and Skyler Paulino had two hits.
