PRESS RELEASE – Cebu, Philippines – Team Guam Marianas Open Select delivered an impressive performance at the prestigious Art Jiu-Jitsu Competition Super Fights, hosted in Cebu. Led by team manager and Marianas Open president, Steve Shimizu, the team of three showcased their exceptional skills, achieving a remarkable 2-1 record against tough international opponents.
Lloyd Cubacub kicked off the event with a show stopping performance, securing victory with a flying triangle in just 40 seconds. His electrifying finish set the tone for the team’s strong performance and highlighted his world-class technique and confidence on the mat.
Roberto Rosario followed in a hard-fought battle against a seasoned veteran and the founder of Impacto Jiu-Jitsu in Japan. In a close match, Rosario narrowly lost 2-0, but his grit and determination earned him respect and admiration from the crowd.
Team captain Anthony Cruz closed the day with a dominant showing, executing a bow-and-arrow submission within two minutes of the match. His swift and decisive victory underscored his technical expertise and leadership as the team’s captain.
Steve Shimizu expressed his pride in the team’s efforts, saying, “These athletes have worked tirelessly to prepare for this event, and it showed in their performances. Their success is a testament to the skill and heart they bring to the mat, and I couldn’t be prouder of how they represented Guam and the Marianas Open.”
The Marianas Open is immensely proud of the athletes’ achievements, as they represented Guam with honor and skill. Their participation in this event was made possible through the support of the Asia Sport Jiu-Jitsu Federation (ASJJF) Rolling Tour (ART), which continues to provide a platform for Guam’s athletes to compete at the highest levels.
