TUGADE ENDS OLYMPIC RUN IN ROUND 1

3-time Olympian makes Guam proud

Regine Tugade, Guam and Micronesia’s fastest woman, advanced past the preliminary round at the 2024 Paris Olympics, ending her run in 11.87 seconds in Heat 8 of Round 1. Her record is 11.76 seconds set in June at the Micronesian Games in Majuro.

In the preliminary round, Tugade finished in fourth place out of nine runners in a time of 12.02 seconds to advance to Round 1.

Both runs on Friday were improvements from her two previous Olympic results.

At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (held in 2021), she finished the 100m preliminary heat with a time of 12.17 to finish fourth in the heat (top three advanced). Overall, Tugade-Watson finished 13th out of the 27 competitors, just missing out on advancing to the next round of competition.

The sprinter also competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics as a plebe, finishing third in her heat (top two advanced) during the preliminaries.
