2ND SINDALU GAMES PUTS ON SHOW AT CENTER COURT

Forty athletes take on Ninja course

The 2nd Sindalu Ninja Games took center court at the Micronesia Mall over the weekend as 40 athletes swung, balanced and fought through a difficult fitness course.

Creator of the event, Deren Perez, has been competing in Ninja Warrior competitions for years and continues to push for the growth of the sport on island.

“This event is all about growing the sport I love and creating opportunities for Guam athletes to compete internationally – and one day, even on the Olympic stage,” Perez said. “What started as a personal training space evolved into coaching, hosting mini competitions, and now successfully completing our second Sindalu Ninja Games. I’m excited to see how the sport continues to grow, and I can’t wait for our new training facility to become a reality.”

This year’s event also serves as a key selection opportunity for the 2025 Guam National Ninja Team, with the top seven male and female amateur athletes and the top five male and female youth competitors earning invitations to represent Guam in international competitions through support from the Guam Ninja Association.

Team Guam will also be headed to the UNAA world championships in Dallas this upcoming June.

QUICK HITS

Guam’s Wayne Blas completed his 13th Boston Marathon and 38th marathon overall.
The island’s record holder in the distance, Blas finished this year in 2:35:21.
“I’m very happy with this result because seven months ago, I was sidelined with a stress fracture that kept me out for three months. No running! To come back on an abbreviated marathon build and finish one of the toughest races strong and healthy was a big win for me.”
His time of 2:29:38 at the 2023 Chicago Marathon and World Marathon Majors Age Group Championships stands as the Guam National Record.
