BOMBERS NEED 2OT TO TAKE TRITON HOOPS TITLE

PRESS RELEASE – The KFC Bombers and Guam Nationals played twice in the Fall 2025 Triton Men’s Basketball League season, and twice the teams went to double overtime. But this time, the KFC Bombers won the game and TMBL championship with a 105-100 victory.

The Guam Nationals playing with only 7 players, gave it their all, but the bigger and stronger KFC Bombers took advantage of the Nationals lack of players and on this night, lack of height, to score points on the inside and wear down the Nationals.

Neither team came out shooting well, as the Nationals were winning after the first quarter, 20-17 and at halftime, 39-32.

The third quarter was key for the Bombers, as Kierhon Wily took advantage of no Mark Johnson playing for the Nationals as Johnson is with the U17 National team as an assistant coach, and Wily scored 15 points and dominated the rebounds from under the basket to pull the KFC Bombers to within 1 point entering the 4th quarter.

With the Nationals up 64-63, the bigger and stronger Bombers with a roster of 13 players started taking their toll on the Nationals, as the Nationals looked tired and several of the Nationals were limping by the 4th period.

The game had the usual chirping between teams and arguing with officials during the 2nd and 3rd quarters and several technicals were called but with the game close entering the fourth quarter, the teams stopped talking and played serious basketball to the end

The Nationals were game and kept fighting hard, and at the end of regulation, the teams were tied 82-82. At the end of the first overtime, it was 88-88 but during the 2nd overtime, the KFC Bombers were able to get ahead by 5 points, and the Guam Nationals could not recover, and the game ended in a 105-100 victory for KFC.

The KFC Bombers were led by league MVP Charles Wingate with 23 points and Kiehon Wiley with 21. Joe Blas had a game high 39 points for the Nationals with 18-24 from the foul line. Joey Delia added 22 for Nationals.

The KFC Bombers ended their season with a 9-1 record and got revenge for their lone loss, a 120-117 double overtime loss to the Guam Nationals in the regular season. The Guam Nationals finished the season with a 9-1 record as well.

This was the first championship for the KFC Bombers since former coaching legend, Coach Gerrand Barnes, coached the KFC Bombers. The loss broke the string of 4 championships won by the Guam Nationals or the Nationals group under a sponsor’s name.

The Triton Men’s Basketball League will return for their spring season in March 2026, with hopefully another 8 team league.

The League named a 15 member All-League Team and a Most Valuable Player for the League.
