CRUZ BROS. CRUISE THROUGH STATESIDE COMP

Nine first-place finishes in three states

Over the past three weeks, Luck and Sage Cruz — known across the youth grappling and wrestling scenes as “The Cruz Boys” — have delivered a remarkable performance, wrapping up the first half of their summer competition schedule with nine first-place finishes in events spanning three different states.

The streak kicked off in Dallas, Texas, where the Cruz Boys struck gold at the ADCC Dallas Open on June 14, showcasing their world-class Jiu Jitsu. The very next day, they were featured in the Five Grappling Pro Event, where Luck secured a major Super Fight victory over an Art of Jiu Jitsu (AOJ) standout, further cementing his name among the sport’s rising elite.

From Texas, the brothers headed north to Pocatello, Idaho, where Luck Cruz took part in Turf Wars on June 24, competing as a member of Team Hawaii’s U12 Wrestling Team. Facing strong competition from across the mainland, Luck helped Team Hawaii — comprised of talented youth athletes from across all the Hawaiian Islands — capture 1st Place in Greco Duels, standing out with dominant and disciplined performances.

Sage Cruz was originally scheduled to compete alongside his brother at Turf Wars, but was forced to withdraw due to a sudden bout of food poisoning. Despite the setback, Sage made a full recovery in time to compete the following weekend.

The tour concluded on June 28 in Anaheim, California, where both Luck and Sage competed in a dual-style wrestling tournament featuring Takedown and Folkstyle divisions. The Cruz Boys left no doubt about their dominance, each taking first place in both styles, without allowing a single point scored against them throughout the event.

The Cruz Boys split their training between Hawaii and their home base in Guam. When in Hawaii, they train Jiu Jitsu at Island Jiu Jitsu and wrestling at FLOW Academy. When back home in Guam, they sharpen their Jiu Jitsu under the elite system at Atos Guam and develop their wrestling at Fudoshin Training Center.

The Cruz Brothers are preparing for the second half of their summer schedule, which includes the prestigious IBJJF Pan Kids Championships, the largest kids Jiu Jitsu tournament in the world. Sage returns as a defending 3x Pan Kids Champion, looking to claim his fourth consecutive title. Just two weeks later, they will return to the ADCC stage at ADCC Nationals, where they’ll compete for double points toward their national rankings.

Currently, Sage is ranked 3rd overall — across all boys, age groups, and weight classes — and Luck is ranked 12th, an extraordinary accomplishment for two young athletes who continue to dominate in both Jiu Jitsu and wrestling.

With their relentless drive, sharp discipline, and elite training behind them, the Cruz Boys are poised for an even bigger second half of the summer.
