Niesha Chen (1) and Alessandra Leon Guerrero (2) take the Oceania U18 Beach Volleyball Championships, beating Australia 21-18, 21-16 in the championship match in the Solomon Islands on Wednesday.
It is the second time in as many days they took down the Aussies.
“This is one of the top accomplishments in the few decades I have been playing and coaching volleyball. Can’t say enough how proud I am of Niesh and Ally. Never seen a team so focused and confident. They adapted well to a more physical Australian team. But most of all their will to win was foundational,” head coach Manny Guarin said.
The pair went undefeated in the tournament, only dropping a single set to Australia in pool play.
The boys team of Antonio Egurrola and Gio Yanesa finished 7th place out of 12 teams.
