GUAM DEFENDS ASIA PACIFIC BASEBALL TITLE

Sights set on Senior World Series

Guam earned its spot in the 2025 Senior League World Series after defending its Asia Pacific Regional championship Saturday afternoon, beating the Philippines 5-1 in the championship game.

Wendy’s Players of the Game: Evan Acosta and Cameron Ayuyu

Evan Acosta homered for the second time in the tournament as Guam rolled to an undefeated week with wins over American Samoa, CNMI and the Philippines.

American Samoa beat CNMI 8-7 in the bronze medal game.

Acosta’s blast came in the bottom of the first inning to ignite the crowd and put Guam on the board. Coen Pangelinan added an RBI single to quickly make it 2-0.

After an unearned run in the second cut the lead in half, Guam added two more in the third with RBI hits from Ty Leon Guerrero and Cameron Ayuyu, who both went 2-for-3 in leading the 10-hit attack. Trace Taijeron also had two hits.

Guam rode the arms of Gavin Alcantara, Javier Taimanglo and Juan Carlo Presnell in limiting the Philippines to one unearned run in the second inning.

“The team today showcased their hard work and dedication to the game,” Guam manager ISaac Cruz said. “Each player had a role and executed to the best of their abilities. The support from each player and understanding their role had every impact to win this tournament. Team Guam worked hard to achieve each win.”

WORLD SERIES BOUND

Guam now shifts its sights on the World Series in Easley, SC July 26 – August 02, 2025. The first time Guam ever advanced to these World Series was in 2022 when Acosta was the youngest on the team at 13-years-old.
