RUN GUAM TO HOST INAUGERAL EVENT

Running Festival set for February 16

PRESS RELEASE – Run Guam, Inc.will host its inaugural RUNGUAM Running Festival on Sunday, February 16, 2025. The event will start and finish at Governor Joseph Flores Park (Ypao Beach) in Tumon, and will include 10k and 5k  race distances.  The Running Festival will celebrate the brand’s 10-year anniversary since launching in February 2015.

“Our company was founded out of the love for the special running community on the island,” said Derek Mandell, President of Run Guam, Inc. 

“Nowhere in the world, besides Guam, are you able to find a community running event on any given weekend. After 10 years in our company’s journey we are finally able to contribute to the island’s vibrant running scene. The Running Festival is our love letter to the running community and we want to provide a festive, memorable, running experience for veteran runners and newcomers alike.”

Registration Info

Race registration fees are $30 for the 5k run and $40 for the 10k run. Registration online at www.runguam.events or in-store at the RUNGUAM store at 518 Pale San Vitores Road, Suite 101, Tumon.

This race features automatic chip timing by Finish Line Results and Guam Running Club. 

The Course
Start time is 5:45 AM for the 10k run and 6:00 AM for the 5k run.  Both the 5k and 10k runs will start in front of the Guam Visitors Bureau on Pale San Vitores Road and will finish with a scenic view of Tumon Bay, directly in front of the “I love GUAM” sign.  

The 10k Course will feature a unique segment where runners take a short trek onto the sands of Tumon Bay between Fujita Road and Hyatt Regency Guam before heading back to the finish line. 


Race  Packets

Registered runners will be eligible to receive a special RUNGUAM race packet, valued over $60, that includes a finisher shirt, running headband, finisher towel, and a sticker. Finisher shirts are limited to the first 350 registered 5k runners (short sleeves) and the first 150 registered 10k runners (long sleeves). Headbands are limited to the first 500 registered runners. Shirts will be given out based on registration date and time. All registered runners will receive a 10%-off Storewide Coupon with their race bibs.

After crossing the finish line runners will receive their finisher towel and finisher medal. Finisher medals will be given to the first 300 5k runners and the first 200 10k runners to cross the finish line.

Packet pickup will be at the RUNGUAM store beginning on Monday, February 3, 2025. Pickup hours are 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM Monday to Friday, and 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Saturdays.

Awards and Raffles

Top-3 Age Division winners will receive free gear from RUNGUAM. Overall Winners in the 5k and 10k will receive free gear from RUNGUAM and a pair of Brooks Running shoes. The event will also include a corporate challenge division for businesses to compete for the title of “Fastest Business on Guam”. Runners must enter their company name while registering to be eligible. 

All registered runners will be entered in a raffle drawing for prizes including the grand prize of one (1) Round-trip ticket on Philippine Airlines (from Guam to Manila or any Southeast Asian destination serviced by Philippine Airlines), courtesy of Goodwind Travel. 

Virtual 10K Run Option
A Virtual 10k Run option is available for off-island runners that would like to take part in the event. Virtual runners must submit their proof of run from a GPS device to receive a finisher shirt and medal. Virtual Finishers Packets will be sent out after the in-person event.

Volunteers
Individuals interested in volunteering can sign up online at www.runguam.events/volunteer. Free race crew shirts will be given to the first 50 volunteers.

QUICK HITS

The JFK Islanders won the first ever Memorial Weekend High School Basketball Tournament.

The All-Tournament selection were Zhion Macapinlac JFK, Darwin Ecijan JFK, Matthew Quinata Southern, and Malcom Fernandez Tiyan.

JFK’s Collin Rillamas was named tournament MVP.

The Prospects captured the Guam PONY Colt Spring Baseball League (14-16) championship Saturday with a masterful 2-0 win over the Smokies.
Pitchers Gavin Alcantara (5 innings) and Javier Taimanglo (2 innings) combined to throw a no-hitter.
Taimanglo and Juan Carlo Presnell drove in the two runs for the Prospects, and Skyler Paulino had two hits.
