
PRESS RELEASE – Over 600 runners took to the roads of Tumon bay and completed the inaugural RUNGUAM Running Festival on Sunday, February 16, 2025. The event took place at Governor Joseph Flores Park (Ypao Beach) in Tumon, and included 10k and 5k race distances. 209 runners completed the 10k distance and 392 runners completed the 5k distance. The Running Festival was held to celebrate the RUNGUAM’s 10-year anniversary since launching in February 2015.
Ryan Matienzo led the way in the 10k men’s division and finished first overall in 35 minutes and 42 seconds. Matienzo pulled away from David Perry in the late stages of the race to come away with a one-second victory. Perry finished second in 35:43. 16-year old Rynier Di Ramos rounded out the top-three with a time of 38:25.
The 10k course featured a unique beach segment with a scenic view of Tumon Bay sunrise.
“This is one of the best courses so far for a 10km race (on Guam)” said 10k-winner Ryan Matienzo. “I’ll for sure come back next year with a (Personal Record). Congratulations to RUNGUAM on their 10th year anniversary! I’ve been with them since day one.”
In the 10k women’s division, Anna Abalos took first place with a time of 46 minutes and 37 seconds, beating her next competitor by nearly two minutes. Hana Lee was second in 48:25. Lucille Di Ramos took the third spot with a time of 49:49.
For the 5k men’s division, Caleb Steele finished first overall in 16 minutes and 31 seconds. Jordan Balicha was second in 17:26. Mikey Rosario finished third in 17:50.
Yumika Sugahara claimed the women’s 5k title with a time of 19 minutes and 14 seconds. Bri Middel finished second in 19:26. KC Paz was third place with a time of 19:49.
